Membership Requirements:

Eagleridge students must be educated at home, through a distance learning program, or by parents, guardians, or individuals, hired by the parent or guardian, to school the child in the home, at least part time.

Behavior:

Students who attend Eagleridge Enrichment Program must abide by the rules that govern all schools in the Mesa District. Please read the 2008-2009 Districtwide Information and Guidelines for Student Behavior carefully when you receive it. Because Eagleridge students are schooled at home for the majority of their basic skills (with the exception of 9th grade students, where the teacher will inform the student of homework policies), the sections of this document which refer to attendance, homework, report cards, parent conferences, retention, and bus rules are not applicable. In addition, Eagleridge is a voluntary program; therefore, we have a zero tolerance policy with regard to unacceptable behavior. Students will be warned for inappropriate behavior and may be removed immediately from the program for the following behaviors:

1. Swearing or inappropriate language
2. Violence against a teacher or another student
3. Defiance against a teacher
4. Carrying weapons
5. Threats to a teacher or another student
6. Harassment of a teacher or another student

Special Education:

Eagleridge is a program within the Mesa Public School District, not a school, and does not provide special education services on our campus. Eagleridge staff will be happy to assist parents with information as to testing for special education in our district or through the student's neighborhood district, if the student does not live within Mesa's school boundaries, or information about private testing resources that are available in the Valley. If your child currently has an I.E.P. please inquire about the additional state mandates that are in place in order to meet your child's needs.

Dress Standards:

Dress standards are, for the most part, considered a matter of personal choice. However, Eagleridge adheres to the following dress standards, as well as all those contained in the Mesa Public Schools' policies:

1. Dress or grooming may not be immodest.
2. Tops that are backless or have spaghetti straps or that expose the abdomen may not be worn. No midriff may show. Tops should overlap the top of the pants or skirt worn by that student. Tops must also have shoulder straps that are a minimum of 2 inches in width. No one strap tops will be allowed. Halter tops are not allowed.
3. Necklines may not be lower than a handwidth from the collarbone. No cleavage may be revealed. Shorts and skirts should not be immodestly short. No skirts or shorts will be allowed that are shorter than where the fingernail touches the leg when arms are extended at the sides.
4. Pants should not expose underwear. Students may not "sag" their pants.
5. Dress or grooming that displays inappropriate or obscene language or symbols will not be allowed.
6. Dress or grooming that advertises products that are inappropriate for the school setting and the age of the student will not be allowed.
7. Shoes must be worn at all times.
8. Chains or other adornments that may be considered dangerous will not be allowed.
9. Hats will not be allowed to be worn in the classroom or the lunchroom.

Attendance:

It is anticipated that Eagleridge K-8 students will attend school on the day(s) for which they are enrolled. Every effort is made to provide a curriculum that is sequential, building skills from week to week. Students who are absent from the program may miss important concepts. It is understood that there may be times when students cannot attend school due to illness or for other personal reasons. If a student needs to be absent, parents are expected to call and report the reason for the absence. The attendance line number is 480-472-3688. Students who are absent 9 consecutive times will be withdrawn from the program. All books checked out from Eagleridge must be returned at that time. Books that are not returned will be billed to the parents.

Eagleridge high school students are required to attend school 90% of the time. If they are absent from school more than 10% of the time, students may be withdrawn from the program. Students who are withdrawn from the program will not receive credit for courses. Once a student has been withdrawn, all school-owned books must be returned. Books that are not returned will be billed to the parents.

School Supplies:

Eagleridge is a member of the Mesa Public Schools and is funded by the state. Therefore, we provide all necessary school materials for your children when they are in attendance. We may occasionally request that you help our program by donating items to be used in art or science. In addition, your child may want to bring the following items:

1. Backpack
2. Tennis shoes for P.E. (required)
3. Water bottle
4. Sack lunch or lunch money

Free Textbook Check out:

Textbooks may be checked out for students currently enrolled in the Eagleridge Enrichment Program. Textbook checkout requires a Visa or Mastercard guarantee. Books may not be checked out for students who do not attend the program. The last day for textbook checkout is April 1. All books must be returned at the end of each school year. Parents who do not return books from a previous year will not be allowed to check out books the next year until all books from the previous year are returned. Parents will be charged for lost or damaged books.

Transportation:

Parents must transport Eagleridge students. No bussing will be provided. Parents are responsible for making sure that students arrive at school on time and are picked up promptly at the end of the school day. Students should not be left, at the conclusion of his/her last class, on the Eagleridge campus without a parent, for more than 15 minutes. After 15 minutes, if all staff members are leaving campus, and no parent has arrived to pick up a student, district security or Mesa police will be called. Parents who wish students to walk home or to another location, unattended, must sign an affidavit, so stating, and releasing Eagleridge from liability.

Use of Copy Machine:

Eagleridge parents are welcome to use the copy machine to make copies of curriculum for which Eagleridge has a license, from the Eagleridge curriculum room, as it is necessary for use in teaching their own children at home. The copy machine should not be used to make copies for children or groups not associated with Eagleridge, or to copy materials brought in from home or the library. Copyright laws prohibit the copying of materials that Eagleridge does not own the rights to copy. Eagleridge students may not make copies without an adult being present in the copy room.

Testing:

Although homeschooling parents are not required to have their children tested, students who attend Eagleridge or are enrolled in MDLP are part-time or full-time public school students. Pursuant to Section 1. Section 15-741, of the Arizona Revised Statutes, public school students must be tested. Eagleridge will provide testing for students in grades 2-9 on the district's scheduled days in April. Students who are present will be tested. Testing results will be provided, free of charge to parents. All standardized testing will be part of the AIMS/Terranova testing during the 2008-09 school year. No out-of-level testing will be allowed, unless a student has an active IEP that calls for it. Eagleridge/MDLP K-6 students will test over a week-long time frame.

Photography and Videography Release:

Occasionally reporters from the local newspapers visit to do a story about our program. In addition, our district reserves the right to use video clips of our students for short programs that are shown on public access television, highlighting our school or district. By signing the Parent/Student Statement of Awareness, you are giving your permission for your child to appear in newspaper articles or video clips with regard to Eagleridge's educational program.

Medication:

1. All medication must come in its original container. Prescription medication must have an unaltered pharmaceutical label attached. Over-the-counter medication must be labeled with student's name and directions concerning dosage.
2. The parent or legal guardian must complete and sign a Student Medication Authorization form. A new form must be completed at the beginning of each school year and anytime the medication or dosage changes.
3. Medication must be administered and stored in the health office. Students may not carry or self-medicate, including over-the-counter drugs or dietary supplements, unless authorized by a physician. In this case, written authorization must be carried with the child at all times. The amount carried must be limited to one day's dosage.

Computer and Internet Use:

Eagleridge students use computers and the internet for various, academically-related projects. By signing the Parent/Student Statement of Awareness Card you are recognizing the fact that your student will be utilizing this technology. Students must be aware that they bear responsibility for using this technology in an appropriate manner, under the guidance of the classroom teacher.

If you received the yellow form that was mailed in July, you have already signed the Parent/Student Statement of Awareness form, signifying that you have read and are in agreement with the policies and standards of the Eagleridge Enrichment Program and the Mesa Public Schools. If you have not signed this form, please stop by the office and do so at your earliest convenience.
