Guidelines for Seniors graduating in spring 2010

Sometimes seniors realize late in the school year that they are missing credits needed for graduation and decide to take courses with MDLP. MDLP courses are academically rigorous and generally take 18 weeks to complete. All assignments and tests are evaluated by a MDLP instructor.

Seniors who enroll in a MDLP course late in the spring semester tend to submit several units of work at one time. Submitting multiple assignments at one time or right before the deadline prohibits the teacher from providing meaningful feedback. Students lose the opportunity to correct problems with assignments submitted right before the deadline, such as incorrect file uploads or incomplete assignments. Many seniors also wait until the final weeks or even days before graduation to submit work and take the final exam. This creates problems for the home school, where the registrar is trying to verify who will graduate and prepare graduation programs.

To ensure that courses are satisfactorily completed, facilitate the graduation process at the home school, and allow MDLP teachers adequate time to grade material and provide appropriate feedback, the following graduation procedure is in effect. The graduation procedure applies whether a course is needed for credit for May graduation, or is being taken as grade replacement for scholarship purposes.

  1. Seniors enrolling in a course that will be needed for graduation in May must enroll no later than Tuesday March 23, 2010. Seniors must pick up materials and pay any fees by Friday, March 26. Seniors enrolling after March 23 may enroll as summer students, but will not be able to access summer courses until May 28.
  2. The registration form and a dual-enrollment form for seniors enrolling in a course needed for graduation in May must be received by the MDLP office no later than March 23.
  3. Assignments must be submitted in the order indicated on the lesson checklist. Students who submit multiple assignments at one time forfeit the opportunity to receive feedback on their work.
  4. All coursework must be submitted no later than May 7 (applies to Mesa students; please see partner district for specific dates). Students should request the final exam (from the course lesson checklist) by May 7. Students will not be able to request the final exam until all coursework has been submitted.
  5. The final exam must be taken no later than May 14.
